George Kapiniaris and Gabriel Rossi star in A Night At The Wopera

George is best known for his character with Trevor in the RAA ads which ran for 12 years on Adelaide TV.  Both George and Gabriel Rossi recently appeared on A Current Affair and made headlines all over Australia in relation to the story pertaining to Nick Giannopoulos and the threat of legal action over use of the word “wog” in show titles.  Gabriel decided to expose the bullying tactics of Giannopoulos to protect his own interests as well as those of his fellow ethnic comedians.  For now, the word “wog” won’t appear in any future show titles, but this could change…

What’s a “Wopera?  It’s not the new Hungry Jack’s Burger. It’s a Wop Opera! It’s a Wop n Roll Stand up Musical.  It’s a Daggy Dago Remix! It’s Lady Yia Yia. It’s a Calabrian Rhapsody. It’s Greta Thunberg replacing Agnetha in Abba. It’s John, Paul, George and Mario. It’s a show of Ethnic proportions!!

George and Gabriel are teaming up for the very first time at the Adelaide Fringe in 2020 in a show that pays homage to musical greats such as Queen, the Beatles, Abba and many more in both George and Gabriel’s signature “woggy” style.  This show comes hot on the heels of the successful sell out tour Wild Ethnics of Comedy which featured both of these seasoned comedians.

George Kapiniaris is back after his hit show from Fringe 2019, Malakas With Attitude.  Also known as the much-loved character Memo from Acropolis Now, George has been a regular feature of the Adelaide Fringe in his 30-plus years in the entertainment industry.  As well as being a fine comedian, he’s a veteran of stage and screen as an actor and is also an accomplished singer and musician, so it made perfect sense to bring these talents together in this latest offering.

Gabriel Rossi is now in his 24th year of standup and is best known for his razor-sharp parody writing skills.  Gabriel has previously appeared at the Fringe in 2017 and 2018 and has done many Adelaide shows in his early career alongside Joe Avati as well as many comedy productions staged at the Arkaba Hotel.

There’ll be music, sketches, standup and hilarious characters in a solid hour comedy variety show which will surely challenge the rules of political correctness as these boys draw on their Greek and Italian heritages with side-splitting results.  You’ll soon learn why these two are leaders in the field of ethnic comedy in Australia.
